Happy Holidays from Branston Pickle

Happy holidays!

Here is a little illustration I created for Branston Pickle’s Facebook page.

Sorry the blog has been a little quiet recently. You may or may not know that I had a little girl back in mid-November and, naturally, she’s been taking up the majority of my time. I’m still working when I can and even managed to make some homemade stockings for our new little family.

I did another illustration for Branston’s page prior to our new addition. This one was in more of a “Where’s Waldo” style.

Normally about now I’d be thinking about my goals for next year, but things have been a touch chaotic around here! After Christmas, I will have more time to contemplate things. I will say that 2014 was a very good year and I have high hopes for 2015. Mailers went out shortly before Christmas, and I am ready to jump right back into work.

Have a wonderful holiday!

What’s In Your Fridge?

Refrigerators-Food-Contents-Gouache-Illustration-Visual-Essay-Kondrich

What’s in your refrigerator?  How much food is in your fridge? How much of that food has gone bad?

There are a lot of variables when it comes to what’s in people’s refrigerators, but we all have one. I find food and food-related issues to be fascinating which is why I thought it would be fun and interesting to illustrate the contents of a variety of refrigerators from around the country and the world.

Thank you to everyone who was willing to share a photo of their refrigerator with me! This is potentially an ongoing project, so I may put out calls for more if anyone is interested in helping. I’ve also thought about turning these into refrigerator magnets – is that something you would be interested in?

Oh, and you’ll find mine and my husband’s at the bottom – I couldn’t very well ask people to show something so personal without being willing to do the same!Refrigerators-Food-Contents-Gouache-Illustration-Visual-Essay-Kondrich Refrigerators-Food-Contents-Gouache-Illustration-Visual-Essay-Kondrich Refrigerators-Food-Contents-Gouache-Illustration-Visual-Essay-Kondrich Refrigerators-Food-Contents-Gouache-Illustration-Visual-Essay-Kondrich Refrigerators-Food-Contents-Gouache-Illustration-Visual-Essay-Kondrich Refrigerators-Food-Contents-Gouache-Illustration-Visual-Essay-Kondrich Refrigerators-Food-Contents-Gouache-Illustration-Visual-Essay-Kondrich Refrigerators-Food-Contents-Gouache-Illustration-Visual-Essay-Kondrich Refrigerators-Food-Contents-Gouache-Illustration-Visual-Essay-Kondrich

Recipe Comic Holiday Cards For Sale!

Many of you are probably already familiar with my recipe comics (if not, you can read them here). They are so fun to create that I thought I would do a couple of holiday recipes. I have now turned those holiday recipes into 2 accordion-fold greeting cards available for sale here.

These cards are a great way to go  that little extra step to show someone how much you care. Why’s that? Because these cards contain the ingredients and instructions for two full recipes, meaning the recipient can keep them and use them forever! They are delicious recipes that I have used at home on several occasions and I’m sure you will like them too.

The cards fold down to 4.5″ x 5.5″ and come with an A6 size envelope and shouldn’t need more than a standard stamp to mail. They are available now on Etsy – buy them in sets to get a bit of a discount on the price as well.

I just finished yet another recipe comic for something that is a regular dish in our household – sausage farfalle with arugula and tomatoes. The last year or so I’ve been having a love affair with arugula; I’ll put it in just about anything.

I’ve had a couple of people on Twitter let me know what kinds of recipes they would like to see from me, but if you’ve got some requests, I’m all ears.

In addition to finishing another recipe comic, I’ve added a new Recipe Comics page to my site. They didn’t quite fit with my portfolio but I thought they deserved a spotlight too, beyond being buried in the archives of my blog.

Over the weekend I did a new recipe comic for Herbed White Bean Dip with Toasted Crostini. This is a really great recipe when you’re having some friends over and it’s something a little different than, say, hummus or spinach dip. Trust me, with the bacon mixed in, this won’t last long.

Enjoy!

Moving Day – New Illustration

Moving-Day-Unpacking-Illustration-Watercolor-Kondrich

I have been working very hard the last few weeks and months to up my illustration game. I’ve been pushing my composition skills and experimenting with new techniques and this is another piece that has come out of that experimentation.

I was inspired to paint this by my little sister who is having a baby next month and moving to their new house next week. I particularly enjoyed painting the food and containers on the coffee table and the Nintendo sitting on top of a box. These little details can really make a big difference and they’re fun to draw.

Recipe Comic For Cooking Up Comics

I was thrilled when Alisa Harris over at Cooking Up Comics asked if I would like to contribute a guest recipe to her blog. The recipe went up early this morning and now I can finally share it with you!

Alisa’s blog is an all vegetarian (often vegan) recipe comic blog and she has been posting comics of her own for some time now. They are always fun recipes and I encourage you to check out the rest of them.

I loved creating this recipe comic and I hope to do more of them in the future. Illustrating food is something I really enjoy so for any of you out there that have a food project you need illustrated, let me know!

Illustrated recipe for They Draw and Cook

Just in time for us to fly out to New York for the holidays, I finished up this illustrated recipe for Cajun Shrimp Po’Boys with Cilantro-Lime Aioli. It’s my husband’s recipe and is perfect for a little summer in the middle of winter. I created the illustration for They Draw and Cook and you can see it on their page here.

I’ve been meaning to contribute something to the site for quite a while and I’m so happy I had an opportunity to get something up before the year was over. I love painting food and am looking to do more food-related illustration in the coming year.

Prints of the piece are available at Society6 and the original painting is for sale. I’m currently shifting my shop, so this piece isn’t listed there but please get in touch if you are interested in purchasing it. I’m also available for commissioned illustrated recipes! It’s too late for Christmas, but they make great gifts!

In unrelated news, if you enjoy poetry my husband (Christopher Kondrich) is a poet and his new book, ‘Contrapuntal’, is available to order now! You can search for it on Amazon but you can also order directly from the publisher for the same cost here.

So, I couldn’t wait to share the rest of what I created for DaVinci Wine’s Storyteller Experience. Above is a painting of some delicious cannoli we enjoyed before dinner in Livorno.

DaVinci Storyteller Experience: Morelli Pasta Review

I know, I know. I haven’t put up any new illustration in a while. I plan to change that later this week but, for now, I wanted to share a little more from my DaVinci Storyteller Experience.
