Discount on Schoolism Digital Painting Classes!

Digital-painting-schoolism-Bobby-Chiu-Yeti

In March of 2010 I started taking a digital painting class through Schoolism with Bobby Chiu. It was one of the best things I’ve ever done and I learned more about Photoshop in 9 lessons with Bobby than I did in 4 years of college.

If you’ve ever wanted to get better at digital painting, Schoolism offers all sorts of great classes. You can take them live or you can take self-directed classes on anything from character design to lighting. As a Schoolism alum, I can now offer you a discount on their classes! Full disclosure: I get credit towards more classes when you sign up for a class. We both win!

Below are links to all of the lessons I completed with Schoolism so you can see how great they are.

Digital Painting #9 – Complete!

This Easter weekend I began my celebration by finishing my final digital painting lesson!  You can see the beginnings of this painting in the previous lesson.  The combination of these two lessons showed me how to combine my skills to take a piece from a simple drawing to a finished painting.  Bobby Chiu was responsible for the original line drawing.

Life has been a bit hectic lately, so I’m a bit relieved that the class is over so I can focus on my resume and job search for our move to Denver as well as the children’s book I am illustrating.  It was an absolutely fantastic class and I would recommend it for anyone who wants to learn how to paint in Photoshop.  You can find this class and many others over at Schoolism. Thanks Bobby!

Digital Painting #8 – Work in Progress

Only one more digital painting class left!  I’m so thrilled with the progress I’ve made and all the new skills I’ve learned.  For this lesson and into the final lesson I am learning how to take a piece from the initial line drawing all the way to a finished painting.  I’m excited to start putting all of the pieces together and now I feel like I’m ready to do more involved pieces this way.  Obviously I’ve learned a lot about Photoshop through this class, but Bobby has also taught me how to think about color and lighting in a way that will help ground the look of my paintings in reality.

I have a piece that I finished penciling today that I plan to paint in Photoshop, so you’ll be able to see my skills put to the test!
